Panacea Pharmaceuticals, a common name, seen on everything from your bedside table during your hospital stay to the drug you consume to solve whatever is ailing you. A large corporation with many avenues of medical expertise, their tendrils dipping into a lot of different things that include medical equipment, and some consumer products but their bread and butter was chemicals and pharmaceuticals. They service the human condition and community at large; Dedicated to the preservation, extension and improvement of human life. They are a scientifically-minded organization that unceasingly directs their research with the highest standards of integrity, ethics and professionalism towards the improvement of the human condition and the quality of life. And now that we have all of that bullshit out of the way and we've tossed the pamphlet in the trash... Panacea was directly responsible for the outbreak through one of their subsidiaries known as Thrioson.
Thrioson is a lesser known subsidiary of the corporate giant that is Panacea that conducts genetic and biological research with several government contracts, an more military minded arm of the company hidden behind mountains of paperwork and secrecy that conducted experimentation for bio-warfare. Their work flew directly in the face of the 1972 Biological Weapons Convention. Their work was hidden behind actual research into viruses in an effort to create vaccines and cures. But then accidents happen. Not even Thrioson could control their own creation once it escaped a lab. It ravaged the world. The company fell after the stock market crashed and then the stock market collapsed all together because well... The government itself collapsed.
The Panacea colored lens symbol is a common sight on Medical Products, the company seemingly everywhere and yet at the same time rather obscure. They closely mimic the fictitious Umbrella Corporation from the Resident Evil game series. A company that likes their secrets kept secret and for that they have many of them. The slogans Building a Better You and A Better Tomorrow Today are often tossed around by the company, scrawled on a lot of their products and advertisements.
Forks. Forks was a small town near the north-western edge of Washington State that wouldn't be known for much of anything if not for the Twilight films putting it on the map. Vampires, Werewolves, and... Zombies? What few people knew is that land just outside of the town of Forks was also home to the AESOP Research Facility, a bio-chemical research arm of the Panacea Pharmaceuticals company and it's subsidiary Thrioson. It was one of several locations that did bio-chemical research for military use, this location a large building in the wilderness with it's laboratories beneath the ground in what had come to be known colloquially as the hive. It was a series of tunnels, offices and labs that served as the base of operations and workhorse for the companies more secretive, lucrative, and illegal programs and experimentation funded off-the-books by governments both foreign and domestic.
Their main research arm was in bio-weaponry through viruses altered and mutated. Research at their three facilities that did the kind of bio research one would expect to be the catalyst for a zombie apocalypse was going well until it wasn't. The virus walked out of one of their lab's and raced across the globe. They didn't have a cure for it and couldn't come up with one in time. Nor did those at the very top even want to try. They'd rather slink back into the inky shadows where they came from to avoid the prison they would undoubtedly be placed in for their role in the spread of the zombie virus. But then the whole world fell apart and the company collapsed. Stock markets were no more. Banks sat empty. Money was meaningless. The company all but fell apart save for some of those in the upper echelons who fled west to hide out at the AESOP facility and try to ride out the apocalypse behind the protection of the facilities walls. This is where they are currently hiding out, trying to survive just like everyone else, save with slight leg up in that they were better prepared for such a scenario and they knew it was coming before the population at large did.
